On a reservoir, lake level is a pattern instruction. Rising water and falling water put bass in two different places, and reading the trend before you launch saves you the first three hours of the day.
How the model treats a pool trend:

New water floods cover that has been dry, and everything in the food chain moves into it at once. Bass follow within hours, and they are shallow — sometimes absurdly so. Fish the bushes, the flooded grass and the timber edges that were bank last week.
The trap is that rising water also spreads fish out. A lake coming up two feet gives bass an enormous amount of new shoreline, so you cover water rather than working spots.
Falling water does the opposite and it is the more useful of the two, because it concentrates. Bass will not be caught out on a drying flat — they pull to the nearest depth change and stack on it. Channel swings, creek bends and the first break off a flat become the whole lake.
On a drawn-down reservoir this is also when structure you cannot normally see becomes reachable: roadbeds, foundations and creek beds that sit under 15 feet at full pool are suddenly at eight.
A lake sitting 1.2 ft below normal tells you very little. A lake that has dropped 1.2 ft in the last fortnight tells you exactly where to start. BassHawk publishes current variance from normal pool plus a fitted trend for every reservoir it tracks.
