BASSHAWK/LEARN/THE BITE SCORE

What Is a Bite Score, and How Is It Calculated?

A bite score is a single number for how hard largemouth should be feeding on a given lake at a given hour. BassHawk's runs 0 to 100 and is assembled from eight weighted factors, every one of them published research rather than folklore. Here is the whole thing, with nothing held back — the score is not the product, the read on it is.

The weights

Each factor contributes at most this many points:

FACTORMAX POINTS
Temperature25
Time Of Day20
Pressure15
Wind15
Cloud Cover10
Front10 (and as low as −20)
Water Level5
Solunar5

Water temperature carries the most weight because it is the master factor — it sets what the others are modifying. Time of day is second because the daily curve is the most reliable pattern in bass fishing. Solunar is last, deliberately, because its evidence is the weakest.

What the labels mean

The raw score is remapped so the bands feel like what they say:

SCORELABELWHAT IT MEANS
0–39PoorGo anyway, but expect to work for every bite.
40–69FairCatchable. Fish deliberately, pick your spots apart.
70–84GoodA solid day. The pattern should hold.
85–94GreatClear the calendar if you can.
95–100PrimeThe days people talk about afterwards.

What a score cannot tell you

It cannot tell you where. A 90 on a lake you have never fished is worth less than a 65 on water you know, because the score rates conditions, not your ability to find the fish those conditions activated.

It also cannot tell you what to throw. Two 80-point days can want completely different baits depending on whether the points came from falling pressure and wind or from a perfect water temperature in dead calm.

That gap is exactly what the daily guide report is for: it reads the same conditions and turns them into areas, depths, baits and an hour-by-hour plan for one named lake.

Where to see one

Every BassHawk lake page publishes today's peak bite score, free and updated each morning. The hour it peaks, the full hourly curve and the seven-day outlook with the best window flagged are in the app.
