Walter F. George Lake (Lake Eufaula) is a 45,181-acre USACE reservoir impounding the Chattahoochee River for about 85 miles from Walter F. George Lock and Dam at Fort Gaines, GA up past Eufaula, AL, with roughly 640 miles of shoreline. It is a classic offshore ledge fishery: the old river channel winds the length of the lake with hard-bottom ledges, shellbeds, and drop-offs that top out around 5 feet and fall into 20-30 feet, and schools of largemouth stack on these breaks spring through fall. Major creek arms like Cowikee (North/Middle/South), White Oak, Barbour, and Cheneyhatchee feed the main river and offer flats, submerged timber, and pinch-point ledges where creek and river channels swing together. In spring bass stage on channel bends and points before pushing shallow to spawn on grass and wood; by summer they slide out to main-lake river ledges and ditches, best worked with crankbaits, big worms, and Carolina rigs. Hydrilla and other aquatic grass in the pockets and creek backs add a shallow largemouth pattern for frogs and flipping year-round.
